King Narakasura is Dalit hero for Diwali

After terming Mahishasura a hero during Dasara festivities, Dalit scholars of Osmania University have now outraged orthodox Hindus by lionising Narakasura, whose killing by Lord Krishna is celebrated as Diwali.

These scholars contend that Narakasura, the son of the earth goddess Bhudevi, was no demon but a king who was defeated in battle by Lord Krishna and Satyabhama in a deceitful manner.

As people celebrated Naraka Chaturdasi on Thursday, a group of Dalits in the Osmania University observed it as vardhanti (death anniversary).

They also offered floral tributes to a picture of Narakasura in the Arts College Campus raising hackles among conservative Hindus.

The scholars asked people not to celebrate Diwali and claimed that Dalits belonged to the lineage of Narakasura and other so called “demon” kings who they say have been portrayed as evil by upper castes.

OU SC, ST, BC and minorities students also organised a seminar ‘Narakasurudu — Raakshasuda (demon) or Rakshasuda (protector)?” wherein participants claimed that history has been distorted to project all those who lost wars as demons.

“We are observing Narakachardashi as vardhanti (death anniversary),” said Mr Visarvardhan, a research scholar. “It is not an occasion to celebrate. We are trying to set right the facts. Narakasura is amaraveerdu (martyr) and not a womaniser.”

“Nowhere in the world does anyone celebrate a death,” said the Dalit scholar, Prof. Kancha Ilaiah. “Nowhere in the world have Gods killed people except in India.”

However, the BJP spokesperson, Mr N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, disagreed with Dalit views and said Diwali symbolised the victory of good over evil and was not related to the death of any individual

  1. ALL RAKSHAKS-PROTECTORS-DALITS, ARE DEPICTED AS DEMONS-RAKSHAS IN HINDU EPICS.
BUT, HISTORY BELONGS TO DALITS ONLY, WE RE-SEARCH OUR GREAT DALIT HISTORY AND RULE INDIA AGAIN AND FOREVER.
    JAI BHIM..

  2. WHY DALITS SHOULD BE GIVEN RESERVATION???
U better Go& Study Dr.Ambedkar writings & Speeches 1st. Dr.Ambedkar given ‘the Reservation in Edu &Jobs’ only based on ‘Social status’ or ‘Social Discrimination’, and “Not based on Economical status”.
Dr.Ambedkar given d Reservation only to S/c& S/ts but Manuvadi politicians Extended the Reservation to OBCs & made it based on Economic factor instead of Social factor to ‘DeMoralize’ Dalit’s Reservation!
D BITTER FACT is that Dalits getting only 16% Reservation & other 34% Reservation goes to OBCs & STs!!!
Now, Tell me Who is getting More Reservation??!!!
Upper Caste people should fight to cancel these 34% Reservation only, Not Dalit’s 16%.
All Indians should keep in mind, u people DISCRIMINATED DALITS SINCE 2000 YEARS & TODAY ALSO, THAT’S Y DALITS SHOULD BE GIVEN RESERVATION.
If ‘Swaraj’ ur ‘Birth right’ in freedom struggle, i proudly tell ‘Reservation’ is ‘Dalits birth right’, Dalits fight for it ever & thru that v get ‘Swaraj’ from ‘Social Discrimination’.
USA IS MODEL TO UPPER CASTES IN EVERY FIELDS. In USA too they giving 10% Reservation to Blacks as AFFIRMATIVE ACTION since 200 years!! So Why don’t India?
ALL INDIANS SHOULD READ DR.AMBEDKAR WRITINGS& SPEECHES, THEN ONLY U UNDERSTAND INDIA’S REAL PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS.

  3. Krishna, Hyderabad says:

Narasura or Narakasura was a Son of Vishnu and Bhoodevi. Do not miss this point. He is supposed to be great follower of Brahma. He was a son of gods.

He was supposed to be a good person gone bad. And his crime was so high that he was awarded a Capital Punishment.

Doesn’t it sound right that some one gone bad was an Asura. A powerful Asura was to be eliminated.

A learned prof like Sri Ilaiah should understand what the concepts mean? Not provoke people on the face value of the concepts.

Sorry to say, My respect for him is waning because of these activities.

  4. Brahmin says:

Narakasura is a Brahmin Not a Dalit
